With the close of the year coming quickly upon us – I’ve been reflecting on what the year 2015 held in store for FLEURtacious….
I’ve been so fortunate to become great friends with many of the talented people within Victoria and Vancouver Island’s Wedding Industry. The calibre of passionate people doing their absolute best to a create THE perfect day for our Bride & Groom’s – completely inspires and amazes me!
On the rare occasion that we can get a large group of us together – all on the same day, to create a collaborative styled photoshoot – Well those days we honestly turn into kids! Constantly high fiving each other and squealing with excitement when the overall vision comes to life!
This editorial concept started over a lunch meet with a few of us professing our love for the ‘2015 Pantone Colour of the Year Marsala’.
(I’m still love it just as much now, even though it’s been <<everywhere>> this year! Marsala is such a fun colour to accent and create with – its so versatile.)
So we set off to build our team – and everyone we asked were ‘in’ immediately!
There’s just so much beauty in these pictures that I posted SO many of them because it was too hard to cut them out. I think this has to be FLEUR’s fullest Blog post to date!
We decided to bring a fun balance of rich colours such as navies, plums and golds to enhance the deep Marsala colouring, and balance it with the sweet soft blushes and apricot tones to create a romantic and pretty ‘wedding-ish’ vibe.
Are you in LOVE yet!? Keep going – it gets better and better….
There’s something to be said about having genuine friends model for us – the chemistry between this crew was so natural and effortless. Some of the very best people I know!
You may recognize them – Chelsea & Bryan from Paper Heart Films and Derek & Lindsay from Four Frames Photobooth – Our award winning models!!
The paper pieces were absolute perfection! Tuktu Paper Co. created a beautiful sketch of Affinity Guesthouse which they are now using on the guesthouse’s own cider – cool fact!
Oh – how I love men’s flowers – and when they are created with gorgeous hellebores…. it just don’t get any better! Classic.
‘Juliet’ Garden Roses have been ‘en vogue’ for quite a few years now in the wedding world, the delicate blush/soft peach tone complements so many other tones perfectly. It was fun to use them alongside some darker accents for this photoshoot. I decided to work in some of my favourite Cymbidium Orchids as well to give a rich depth to the bouquets and arrangements. Orchids have taken a bit of a break from the forefront of wedding flowers over the last few years – I think it’s time they make a comeback! Just like the Carnation – haha (don’t cringe!) they are coming back in a HUGE way and the colours are nothing like you’d find in the old cliché.
I am a texture fanatic – so Maple and Magnolia leaves, along with lovely fillers such as Astilbe and Eucalyptus played nicely with the Heleborus, Lisianthus, Scabiosa, Ranunculus and Frittilaria. Just a few of the flowers that consume a floral designer’s dreams…
Yes it’s true! We won for best collaborative booth at the Vancouver Island Wedding Awards. What an honour it was to receive this award along with my talented friends!
The food… oh man! I’ve raved about Toque Catering in the past – but these little delicacies created for our shoot could NOT have been more fitting. Mini Grape Ice Cream Cones with Lavender Sprinkles predicted to be a big trend for the 2016 Wedding Season.
And then, there were the Black Forest Cake Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches – there are NO words…
I LOVE macarons and these…. just…gah!
There is not enough praise I could ever give for Gwen Ewart, our stellar photographer for this collaboration and one of the main masterminds behind the whole concept. Gwen’s amazing eye for details makes vendors heart’s sing – when I first received a preview of the shoot, my first thoughts were – HOW ARE WE EVER GOING TO TOP THIS!?
…But of course, we’re already talking about scheming up the next one because this collaboration was such a dream to work on!
Gwen – YOU ROCK!
Marika from Rock, Paper, Square is the styling and staging guru – always such a pleasure to work with and learn from her. No detail EVER goes un-thought-of and she provided the team with an incredible story board to keep everyone in the loop with the concept. Another one of the masterminds behind the project and honestly – it would NOT have looked like this if she wasn’t the one keeping us all on track.
One of my favourite things about these collaborations is how it all comes together – each person working their magic and the end result is usually better than we first imagined!
Affinity House – now this place is a true hidden gem! Seriously, if you are looking for an incredible venue just outside of Victoria where the people who run it are as sweet and as accommodating as can be – look no further! The venue itself and the property it sits on is so picturesque – you feel as though you are a million miles from anywhere you know.
Nicole you are such a wonderful hostess!
Now the ladies who helped to enhance our beautiful women are talent to the extreme! Elena from Conscious Hair is an absolute hair wizard – everyone knows it, haha, so I’m not telling you anything new! Alisha who did the ladies make-up is such an absolute sweetheart and a magician with a make-up wand.
Fern at the Bride’s Closet is one of the dearest people I’ve come to know in this industry. And that dress – oooh LOVE!
